Balancing Business and Motherhood as a Creative Entrepreneur

When I first started my business, I thought the hardest part would be finding clients.
I was wrong.

The real challenge?
Balancing the ever-changing demands of motherhood with the equally unpredictable world of running a creative business.

Some days I feel like I’m thriving — ticking off client tasks, meeting deadlines, and still managing to do school drop-off with my coffee in hand. Other days… I’m answering emails with one hand while unpacking their school bags, putting their socks in the laundry and wondering if I remembered to email that campaign idea or if it was just a very convincing dream.

The Myth of Balance

Let’s be honest, there’s no perfect balance. Some weeks my business gets more of me, other weeks my kids do. And that’s okay. The magic is in the flexibility. I’ve learned (and still am learning) that balance isn’t a static 50/50 — it’s a shifting blend that adapts to what’s needed most in that moment.

What’s Worked for Me

1. Clear Boundaries (most of the time)

I don’t always get this right, but I try to set real working hours. That means when I’m with my kids, I’m with them, not half-scrolling through emails and half listening to a story.

2. Batching Creative Work

When inspiration strikes, I lean into it. I batch-shoot content, write captions and edit in one go so I’m not constantly switching between “creative brain” and “school schedule brain.”

3. Letting Go of Perfection

The house won’t always be tidy. A post might go out at 9pm instead of midday. But done is better than  perfect — especially when you’re juggling so many hats.

Why I Think This Season Is Worth It

Motherhood has made me more resilient, more resourceful and a lot more protective of my time. It’s made  me a better listener, a faster problem-solver and someone who can pivot in seconds — all skills that fit beautifully into my business too.

There’s a certain kind of pride in knowing my kids are growing up watching me build something of my own. My daughter has dressed up as me for multiple Occupation Days at school (her choice) which proves she is watching and learning from me all the time.

If You’re in This Season Too…

Remember: you don’t have to do it all at once. Some days the scales will tip toward business, other days toward motherhood. What matters is the bigger picture and the joy in both.

    Now, it's your turn:
I’d love to hear how you navigate the overlap between business and motherhood. Leave a     comment or send me a message — I’m always here for real conversations on the messy, beautiful balance.
